Kimberley Adventure Tours - Real outback experience

Travellers expectations Stories.

This article isn’t to upset anyone or to put anyone down, it’s purely  to make you aware that some people’s expectations and time frames for exploring the Kimberley and Western Australia is just not realistic.

The Kimberley region and Western Australia are vast and the distances between places also may not seem large but people forget to take into account the condition of the roads and tracks they need to travel.  It’s not uncommon in certain times of the year after the rains to be flooded in for weeks without being able to drive out, only way out is via a Helicopter or Flight.

Here are some of the comments I’ve heard and seen, from people wanting to travel and explore our wonderful outback and not being aware of the vast distance that needs to be travelled and to cover our wonderful state.

1.    I would like to travel from Darwin (NT) to Perth (WA) in 5 days on an adventure tour.
Why not possible: Distance is around 6000km

2.    Why do we spend so much time in the Coach or Car?
Why not possible: Lots of Miles to cover because of vast distances

3.    I met a gentlemen in Perth (WA) who wanted directions to get to Exmouth, after a longish chat I asked him how long he had planned to travel and stay in Exmouth to my amazement he said I will only do it in a day trip
Why not possible:  The distance is 2000km one way or 4000km return (not possible in 1 day)

4.    I’ve seen cars go into the Bungles and break down and their owners wonder WHY?  Considering the track is one of the roughest 4WD Tracks in WA.
Why not possible: It requires 3 hours to travel 50km with a 4WD vehicle with good clearance.

5.    I want to see all the attractions in the Kimberley (Gibb River Road, El Questro, Home Valley, Mitchell Plateau, Bells Gorge, Windjana Gorge, tunnel Creek & The Bungles) in 2 days and fly down to Perth from Broome
Why not possible: Trip like this takes 12 days as a minimum

6.    I want to travel and see the attractions in the Kimberley’s in December and January.
Why not possible: The wet weather and Humidity is unbearable and once the rains start all unsealed roads are closed (which is all the roads to the attractions)

7.    When I get off the Greyhound in Turkey Creek (Warmum) can I walk into the Bungles.
Why not possible: It’s over 75km each way and there are no facilities for supplies in the Bungles and very little shade available.

Just remember when planning trips in the outback, the places is wide and vast and needs time to be explored or travelled.

May all your travels be Adventures and Happy!
